The state of emergency declared by Okinawa Governor on Jan.19

Okinawa Governor has announced a state of emergency declaration over New Coronavirus pandemic on January 19, 2021. The local state of emergency took effect on Jan 20 and was in place until Feb.7.  Okinawa Prefectural Government has called on residents to refrain from going out for nonessential reasons. Under the local measure, bars and restaurants in all municipalities in the prefecture including Ishigaki City will be asked to end daily operations by 8 p.m. Okinawa residents are asked to avoid nonessential travel to the prefectures under the central government's state of emergency and areas covered by the local emergency declarations. Traveling to remote islands within the prefecture needs to be avoided as much as possible during the period, the declaration says.
